Temple Emanu-El partnered with Undue Medical Debt to raise $10,000 to alleviate the burden of medical debt within our community and surrounding NJ areas. By partnering with Undue Medical Debt, we can eliminate over $1 million of medical debt.

The gift of medical debt relief is life-changing—and every dollar makes a difference! Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, all funds up to $5000 will be matched.

The burden of medical debt can lead to increased mental health distress, decreased utilization of medical services, and can force tough choices between paying off debt incrementally or paying for food, utilities, housing, and education.

Consider these startling figures:

· 1 in 10 New Jersey residents carry unpaid doctor and hospital bills.

· About 11% of New Jerseyans have medical debt that has gone to a collection bureau despite only 6.8% of residents being uninsured in 2022.

· According to recent data, 15% of Union County residents have medical debt in collections. The burden impacts 6% of those in white communities but 19% of people in communities of color. Moreover, nearly 13% of Union County residents do not have health insurance.
