Abolishing Medical Debt in the Central Texas Conference
You are invited to become involved in this mission to reduce or eliminate the burden of medical debt falling on our must vulnerable neighbors around us right here in the Central Texas Conference. RIP Medical Debt has identified $918,040 worth of medical debt in our conference and we desire to abolish all of it!
Our goal is to raise $5194.87 to eliminate the entirety of medical debt for vulnerable neighbors in the Central Texas Conference.
Since each donated dollar multiplies to eliminate an astonishing $170 in medical debt, every single dollar donated makes a difference!
This campaign is being organized by the Central Texas Conference Order of Deacons, plus laity who are passionate about helping people. Deacons are ordained United Methodist clergy called to ministries of Word, Service, Compassion and Justice, with a heart for the impoverished and marginalized.

The Problem In the past forty years, medical costs have doubled, insurance copays and deductibles have spiked, and bankrutpcy rates have quadrupled. More than 60% of bankruptcies in America have medical debt as a root cause. Most Texans have worked hard and saved responsibly in order to be financially independent, but few have the savings to cover an unexpected $1,000 medical expense.
